The first ever National Ride Along Week saw 29 ride alongs/site tours with 16 CPA members and more still to come.
The experience was very well received by everyone involved, with many describing it as both enjoyable and eye-opening. The ride-alongs and tours featured delivery operations, as well as visits to residential, commercial, and onsite business operations.
One of the key observations that emerged was that many elected officials are unfamiliar with the propane industry and the numerous advantages propane offers—particularly its vital role as a reliable and often critical energy source in Indigenous, rural, and remote communities.
This campaign was a great opportunity to educate elected officials and helps us in our meetings. It is much easier to advocate for our asks when it is known how important propane is.
It also sets the stage for our national lobby day on the hill on November 19, where we will be advocating for streamlined regulations and permitting and supporting workforce mobility and efficiency in the propane industry. Our asks will also highlight:
Thank you once again to those members who participated in National Ride Along Week. Your effort and engagement were key to making the event a success.
In September, CPA’s VP Government Relations West, Katie Kachur, attended the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Conference in Victoria. Together with producer members, the CPA welcomed renewed government interest and support for the natural gas sector—including LNG and propane—from both the Premier, David Eby, and Health Minister Adrian Dix.
The CPA will continue to advance its advocacy priorities in British Columbia, emphasizing the province’s strong export potential and the importance of equitable energy policies for all residents. Many rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in northern BC still rely heavily on diesel, underscoring the need for greater energy choice.
The BC Committee is planning another food truck event at the legislature in 2026. Ongoing discussions will also continue around key policy and regulatory recommendations. For questions, email katiekachur@propane.ca.
“Continue to develop and improve regulatory regimes to incentivize investment in hydrogen, enhanced oil recovery, ammonia, helium, lithium, propane, geothermal, liquified natural gas, as well as other liquids and minerals in our province.”
This explicit mention is an important recognition of propane’s role in Alberta’s “all of the above” energy strategy, supporting a balanced approach to investment and innovation across multiple resource sectors.

The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) will host its 35th Annual Summit in Edmonton, Alberta, from July 19–23, 2026. The event will gather legislators, business leaders, academics, and policymakers from across Canada and the U.S. to discuss shared economic and trade challenges.
Recognized as a model for cross-border collaboration, PNWER fosters dialogue between public, private, academic, and non-profit sectors to develop practical, regional solutions. The CPA is proud to serve as a sponsor for this important event.

On October 20, 2025, the Ontario Legislature resumed sitting. Following the success of National Ride Along Week where seven MPP’s participated in ride-alongs or site visits, the CPA will be working on the following priorities this fall:
During the Newfoundland and Labrador election campaign, Tony Wakeham, now Premier-elect of Newfoundland and Labrador, responded to CPA’s letter outlining the province’s high levels of energy poverty and its proposed Lower Emission Energy Retrofit Program which includes dual-fuel systems pairing propane with electric heat pumps.
In his October 6 reply to Allan Murphy, CPA’s Senior VP of Government Relations, Wakeham recognized the seriousness of the issue, noting that despite Newfoundland and Labrador’s wealth of oil, gas, wind, and hydro resources, many households still struggle to afford home heating and basic expenses.
He also noted, “Regarding your specific proposal, for a Lower Emission Energy Retrofit Program. Following the election, my government will review the proposal as submitted.”
Once the new government is in place, the CPA will be seeking meetings to discuss how propane can increasingly provide affordable energy choice to the province.
Across North America, the rapid expansion of data centers presents a major challenge for the energy system. A challenge that should be met by propane, not diesel.
In an executive summary of a recent White Paper, the U.S.-based National Propane Gas Association noted that data centres are underpinning commerce, communication, and national competitiveness in the United States.
However, their growth strains a power sector already facing transmission bottlenecks, interconnection delays, and decarbonization pressures. Addressing this demand requires scalable, flexible energy solutions.
Propane stands out for its portable storage, long shelf life, nationwide infrastructure, and lower emissions than diesel. Used in generators, microgrids, or with renewables, propane supports resilient, efficient, site-adaptable power.
In Canada, the same principle applies. Propane is a much cleaner energy choice than diesel. The use of propane balances reliability and sustainability, displacing millions of litres of diesel.
When comparing the emissions of propane (73g/mj) to that of diesel (99g/mj), the choice of propane is clear. The further development of renewable propane (30g/mj) makes the case even more obvious.
Governments are increasingly faced with pressure on Canada’s energy grid and the rising costs of electricity in many provinces. The discussion about how propane can support spiralling energy grid requirements needs to start now. The CPA will make the industry’s voice heard.

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne will deliver the 2025 Federal Budget on November 4, 2025. The following day, KPMG will host a free webinar featuring senior leaders and guest speakers offering insights and analysis of the budget’s key measures.
Let PTI help ensure you remain compliant when the scope of your work extends beyond what’s required by the gas code.
Many PTI courses are well-known across the propane industry for preparing workers to meet regulatory requirements found in the federal gas code. For example, anyone involved in transferring propane must complete a certified training course before performing those tasks.
But did you know that PTI also offers a range of valuable, lesser-known courses that address areas of work often overlooked by regulation? Over the coming months, we’ll be shining a spotlight on some of these underappreciated offerings—exploring how and why they’re essential for safety, compliance, and professionalism in the field.
Stay tuned, stay proactive, and take steps now to prevent incidents before they happen.
