Two updates have already been released, and the CPA will continue sharing weekly briefings on the latest election developments and key issues throughout the federal election campaign. Each update features a political analysis of the campaign, recent polling data from 338Canada, and seat projections indicating which candidates are leading in each province. These updates can help members stay informed on critical topics such as tariffs and other industry policy matters.

Canada’s third National Propane Day saw strong participation from CPA members, with businesses, suppliers, and consumers engaging country-wide. It was great to see so much engagement from companies and individuals sharing posts and images of propane-powered solutions and industry contributions. The hashtag #NationalPropaneDay gained significant traction, reflecting widespread engagement.
The CPA took the opportunity on National Propane Day to comment on the U.S. tariffs and call for the removal of interprovincial barriers that impede the efficient movement of propane across the country. In its news release, Canadian Propane Association Marks National Propane Day Amidst Complex Global Trade Challenges, the CPA urged policymakers to recognize equivalent provincial certifications and regulations, adopt federal safety codes to eliminate costly duplicative barriers and establish a more seamless, reliable propane distribution network nationwide.
“At a time when global markets are volatile, Canada must focus on breaking down internal barriers that make using propane even more difficult. We need all stakeholders—governments, industry, and regulators—working together to safeguard energy security and economic stability for all Canadians,” said CPA President & CEO Shannon Watt.
While National Propane Day served as an opportunity to highlight the benefits of propane, it also underscored the need for policy action to remove barriers that hinder industry growth. The CPA is committed to advocating for these changes while promoting propane’s role in Canada’s energy future.

The CPA is working with industry partners to respond to the Federal government’s late-stage amendment to the Competition Act under Bill C-59, passed on April 30, 2024. Known as the “greenwashing amendment,” it has significantly restricted businesses and associations from communicating their environmental goals without offering tangible benefits to consumers. The CPA and industry partners argue that the amendment should be repealed entirely.
Key issues with the amendment include:

Following the re-election of the Conservatives with a majority government, CPA President and CEO Shannon Watt sent a letter to Premier Ford outlining red tape and inter-provincial issues of concern to the CPA. These include:
The Ontario NDP remains the Official Opposition, while the Ontario Liberal Party increased its seat count from the last parliament, securing official party status for the next legislative session.
The CPA looks forward to working with the government on these issues.
On February 25, the CPA filed its pre-budget recommendation to New Brunswick’s Finance Minister, René Legacy, highlighting the issue of energy poverty.
The CPA emphasized that “every New Brunswicker should have access to affordable, dependable, and sustainable energy, regardless of where they lived.” The CPA sited a report by Statistics Canada that shows affordable energy choice is not available equally to all Canadians, especially in Atlantic Canada. The 2021 Census showed that 822,000 households in Canada (5.6%) were energy poor, and this was more prevalent in the Atlantic provinces, ranging from 10.7% to 13.7%.
In the end, New Brunswick requires more than a “one-size fits all” energy strategy. Propane offers an immediate solution for both cost savings and reduced emissions.
Congratulations to Parkland who has achieved a first for Canada – producing renewable propane right here at home! This innovation means a locally available, drop-in fuel that provides the same reliability and affordability as conventional propane—without any changes to existing systems or appliances.
With this breakthrough, Parkland’s initiative not only demonstrates the technical feasibility of renewable propane production, paving the way for Canada to produce its own renewable propane – reducing reliance on imports. With a domestic supply, Canada can strengthen energy security, enhance economic resilience, and ensure that businesses and consumers have access to locally produced, low-emission propane.
The CPA applauds Parkland for this groundbreaking achievement and remains committed to advancing policies and investments that will drive the expansion of renewable propane production across Canada.
