Throughout the federal election, the CPA has supported members with weekly updates, polling insights, and campaign analysis. Guidance has also been provided for members to engage with their local candidates.
The CPA is using this opportunity to connect with federal party leaders, offering recommendations to remove industry barriers and drive growth. Key priorities include improving regulations for the free movement of goods and services, diversifying exports beyond the U.S., and ensuring affordable energy access, particularly for Indigenous, rural, and remote communities.
Post-election, the CPA will assess the political landscape following the April 28 election results to guide future advocacy efforts.

CPA President and CEO Shannon Watt and NPGA President Steve Kominski presented on the significant and unexpected impact of U.S. tariffs on Canadian propane exports. Shannon emphasized how the tariffs have disrupted Canadian operations, despite Canada being a key U.S. trade partner and ally.
Her remarks provided U.S. stakeholders with new insights into the Canadian perspective, emphasizing the need for cross-border cooperation on trade policy and energy security. The session built on the CPA-NPGA joint statement released earlier this year, reinforcing the call for united industry advocacy in response to emerging challenges.
On March 27, 2025, the CPA welcomed Tucker Perkins, President and CEO of the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), for a webinar on propane’s evolving role in North American energy systems. Drawing from his book The Path to Zero, Perkins emphasized a “wide path” approach—supporting diverse, practical climate solutions. He also discussed the impact of shifting U.S. political priorities under President Trump, with a renewed focus on affordability and energy security.
The session included an engaging Q&A on net-zero strategies, U.S.-Canada collaboration, and how the propane industry can remain relevant in today’s changing energy landscape. Watch the webinar.

To ensure electric vehicle (EV) owners fairly contribute to road maintenance, the Saskatchewan government introduced a Road Use Charge in the 2021-22 Budget. The 2025-26 Budget increases this charge from $150 to $300 per year for each registered passenger EV. This adjustment aligns the contribution of EV owners with that of traditional vehicle owners. The new rate will take effect on June 1, 2025.
